Below we've listed a few of the common questions
people ask us about Sedation Dentistry. We've also provided
some online resources if you'd like more information on the
practice of Sedation Dentistry.
FAQs Q: Will I be "unconscious" like
with General Anesthesia? A: No. You will be experiencing conscious
sedation. You will have full control of bodily functions and
reflexes. We also have the ability to bring you in and out
of sedation as required. You can respond and communicate should
the need arise.
Q:
Can I drive or work for the rest of the day? A: We recommend that you spend the
remainder of the day relaxing and taking some time for yourself.
Do not do any strenuous work and have a friend or family member
with you until the sedation has fully worn off.
Q:
Will I really be totally relaxed? A: Yes! You'll be virtually unaware
of the treatment... and very relaxed.
Q:
Will I remember anything? A: By the end of the treatment most
of the time you'll have little or no memory of the actual procedure.
Q:
Will I feel any pain? A: Patients experience no discomfort
whatsoever during treatment and feel surprisingly good afterwards.
Q:
For what treatments is sedation dentistry practiced? A: Any procedure that may produce
discomfort-implants, dentures, cosmetic treatments, crowns,
gum surgery and more.
Q:
Is sedation dentistry safe? A: Oral sedation dentistry protocols
have been used safely for 30 years. Dr. O'Neil will review
your medical history and monitor you closely while under sedation.
Q:
Will my insurance cover the added cost of Sedation
dentistry? A: We'll review your insurance coverage,
and if necessary, make financial arrangements to ensure you
get the dental care you need.
Q:
Who is a candidate for Oral Sedation? A: Adults with...
a dislike of noises, smells and tastes associated with
dental care
anxiety and embarrassment about their teeth
